knows (三单)- knowing(现在分词)- knew(过去式)- known(过去分词)
know 表示 “知道,了解,明白”
其用法与如下:
know ... 知道/了解...I know him.
我知道/了解他。
Do you know this place?
你知道这个地方吗?
know + 句子;知道/了解...(宾语从句)I know (that)tomorrow is your birthday.
我知道明天是你的生日。
I don't know what he wants to do now.
我不知道他现在想要做什么。
Do you know where the supermarket is?
你知道超市在哪里吗?
注意:know 后面的宾语从句要用陈述语序。(见文章:宾语从句)
I don't know what to do next.
我不知道接下来该做什么。
He knows how to do it.
他知道怎么做。
We don't know where to go.
我们不知道该去哪里。
注意:此结构为宾语从句的变形;
如:I don't know what to do next.
=I don't know what I should do next.
当从句的主语与主句的主语(或宾语)相同时,才能变形;
如:My mom let me know how I could make the soup.
妈妈让我明白了怎样做汤。
从句主语 I 与主句的宾语 me 一致,可变形:
=My mom let me know how to make the soup.
如:I don't know when she will arrive in Chongqing.
我不知道她什么时候到重庆。
此时主句的主语 I 与从句的主语 she 不一致,不能变形;若变形,意义也就变了;
I don't know when to arrive in Chongqing.
我不知道什么时候到重庆。(我到重庆,而不是她)
两者有较小的区别,初中基本不考查,了解即可;
know about 表示了解的程度更深
know of 表示有听说,知道并不一定了解

known 为过去分词,可做形容词,与初二上册学习的“famous”意思相同,表示“为人所知的,闻名的”;构成短语如下:
be known/famous for... 因为...而闻名
be known/famous as... 作为...而闻名
be known/famous to... 为(某人)所熟知
Edison was famous/known for his great inventions.
爱迪生因为他的伟大发明而闻名。
He was famous/known as a great scientist.
他作为一个伟大的科学家而闻名。
He is famous/known to all of us.
对于我们而言,他非常出名。
初中阶段,famous 的出现频率更高,必须掌握其短语,但 known 的用法也是需要知道的!

语法中“动词的ing形式”有“动名词”和“现在分词”,两种形式,它们的表现形式都是“动词的ing形式”。
拿 love(爱) 举例,该动词的“动名词”和“现在分词”形式完全一样,都是 loving。另外,动词加上时态,还可以拓展为以下形式:
1)一般形式: loving
2)完成形式: having loved
3)一般形式的被动形式: being loved
4)完成形式的被动形式: having been loved
5)否定形式: 在前边加上not, 如 not loving 和 not having done
这些形式被称为“动名词短语”或者“现在分词短语”。
虽然“动名词”和“现在分词”形式相同,但它们在句子中的成分、作用完全不同。记住两个原则:
1. 动名词相当于名词,名词可以充当的成分,动名词也可以充当(比如主语、宾语、表语)。
2. 现在分词相当于形容词或副词,形容词、副词可以充当的成分,现在分词也可以充当(定语、状语、表语、补语)。
先举几个现在分词的例子:
1)I don’t know the man smoking at the gate.
我不认识大门口抽烟那个男人。
smoking at the gate 是现在分词短语,做定语,修饰 the man。
2)Having managed his wealth, he became richer.
理财之后,他变得更富有了。
having managed his wealth 是一个“现在分词短语”,在句中做状语,表原因。
3) I saw the kid stealing in the bus.
我看到那个小孩在车上偷东西。
stealing in the bus 是“现在分词短语”,句中做宾语补足语(宾语:the kid)。
再来看动名词的情况:
1)Making cakes is one of my mother’s hobbies.
制作蛋糕是我妈妈的爱好之一。
making cakes 是动名词短语做主语。
2)I like watching baseball.
我喜欢看棒球。
watching baseball 是动名词做宾语。
还有两个重要的区别点:
1. 动名词和现在分词都可以放在核心名词前做定语,但用法不同。
现在分词作定语时,表示所修饰的名词的动作,而动名词表示所修饰名词本身的属性。如:
现在分词:
a barking dog
一只正在叫唤的狗
a flying bird
一只正在飞的鸟
动名词:
a waiting room
候车室
a sleeping bag
睡袋
2. 动名词、现在分词都可以做表语,但用法也不一样:
现在分词相当于形容词,可以做表语;动名词相当于名词,也可以作表语。形容词表语和名词表语当然也是不一样的。比如:
I am happy.(形容词表语)
I am a teacher.(名词表语)
体会动名词、现在分词做表语的案例:
He is disgusting.
他令人恶心。(分词做表语)
His task is cleaning the windows.
他的工作是 擦窗户。(动名词做表语)
